Thursday, December 19

Dear SPC Families,

I read a meme online this week that said, "Brace yourselves, teachers… a full moon last week and this week is the week before Christmas break!" The excitement in the classrooms is palatable! I know the children are very excited for Christmas! We have had a wonderful week before we leave for Christmas break.

Congratulations to all the preschool through fifth graders who performed in their Christmas concerts this week. Thanks to all of the teachers who helped the students practice and prepare. A very special shout out to our music teacher, Mr. Alex Bravos! Congratulations to Mr. Bravos on his first SPC Christmas Concert. I also want to thank our Early Childhood Director, Mrs. Meghan Waldeck, for the behind the scenes preparations.

Tomorrow we will start our celebration of Mass with a Posadas procession. Las Posadas is a Mexican tradition where the journey of Mary and Joseph to find a room at the inn is reenacted. Two of our 8th graders will dress as Mary and Joseph and go to each classroom in the UGC (the EGC students will join their prayer partners) and ask for lodging. At each classroom, Mary and Joseph will be turned away and faced to travel to another classroom. As Mary and Joseph process from room to room, each class will then follow behind Mary and Joseph becoming Pilgrims who join them on the journey. We will process as grades K-8 to the front steps of the church where Father Britto will welcome Mary, Joseph and all the 'pilgrims' into church, finally finding shelter in the church for the start of Mass at 2:00pm. Our Preschool and PreK students will have their own Las Posadas in the morning and will remain in the 1st floor of the EGC. More information on Las Posadas can be found by clicking here.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Adopt a Family. Because of your generosity, many families will receive their Christmas Wish Lists. We helped 16 families for a total of 96 people (60 children) and 284 gifts were filled! WOW! We also were able to purchase the gifts that were not accounted for and make a donation of $1486.52 to the Parish Adopt a Family Program. Thank you for your kindness!

Upon our return in January we will be full speed ahead with Celebrating the Spirit, Roundball, and Catholic Schools Week! But before we begin 2020, I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas! May the light and love of the Christ Child fill all our hearts!

Peace,

Dr. Erika Mickelburgh
Principal
