Dear SPC Families,
The Tiger Fun Run is in full force at SPC. Our goal is to raise $65,000 for instructional materials, technology and facility enhancements! Thank you in advance for your support of this fundraiser. The students are already having a fun time, wearing silly socks, winning popsicle parties, scrunchy day and PJ day! The funds raised will go to support our enhanced STEAM program and to pay for the new instructional materials we added this year: a new K-8 Social Studies Curriculum, Spanish Curriculum for Early Childhood through Grade 8, and an Early Childhood Math program. This week will be a little busy with communication from your teachers; please look for daily notices on Google Classroom, as the teachers will update what incentive the homerooms have earned.

The Tiger Fun Run will take place in the large parking lot (there is no parking or drop off in the lot that day) on September 27th at the following times:
Preschool, Pre-K, K 8:30-9:30am
Grades 1-3 10:00am-11:00am
Grades 4-5 12:45-1:45pm
Grades 6-8 2:00-3:00pm
As part of the Tiger Fun Run there is a character education component. Each day the students meet for a 10-minute team huddle where they discuss their rewards and watch a character video. Click here for today’s video.
Jodee Blanco Book Signing & Order Form
On September 10th, Jodee Blanco came to SPC to talk to our students about bullying. She is the author of NYT Bestseller, Please Stop Laughing At Me. She will be returning to SPC to sign copies of her book. If you are interested in ordering the book, please click here to purchase. Orders must be placed by September 27th.

Gentle reminder regarding picking up your child's homework if he/she is absent; please do not come to school prior to 3:00. The teachers will not have the homework ready yet as they are teaching classes all morning and afternoon. Thank you for your understanding.

Volunteer Opportunity for 6th - 8th Graders
For Respect Life Month (October), the SPC Life Team will be coordinating the Baby Bottle Project which is in support of the Women's Center of Greater Chicagoland. Baby bottles are distributed to the parish/school and families fill them with spare change during the month.

Fall Offerings at SPC
SPC Green Team! Calling all 4th, 5th and 6th Graders
If you love the environment and want to help take care of our Earth, then join SPC's Green Club. Together, our members are working to find ways the entire SPC community can protect the environment and care for the resources God has so generously shared with us. Some club activities might include:
- Organizing a school supply recycling drive
- Using creativity to inform all students about protecting the earth
- Walking to the SPC garden to learn about composting and nature
Please join us for our meetings on the third Monday of each month during lunch and recess. Our meetings are currently scheduled for Sept. 23, Oct. 21, November 18 and December 16.
Club moderators Kristin Hunt and Kelly Skony will collect Green Team members in the upper grade center on these dates for our meetings and then return students to their homerooms once lunch and recess have concluded. High School Placement Test Preparation - PEACE Educational Services
PEACE Educational Services will be offering their High School Test Preparation Program on Thursdays beginning September 26th for 8 consecutive weeks at St. Paul of the Cross School.
PEACE provides a comprehensive program, which fully prepares students so that their full ability is reflected on their high school entrance exam. We teach the format of the HSPT. Over 8 weeks, we review and practice in the test format 17 essential math concepts. We also review and practice language skills required for the test including grammar, usage, verbal classifications, and vocabulary. We teach specific reading comprehension strategies and practice them over 7 sessions. We fully explain and practice analogies and logic problems which are new skills for most students. On the last day the students take a full HSPT to practice the skills acquired over the 8 weeks. You are provided a full report categorized by skill areas and vast resources for further practice if needed. The cost of the program is $575 plus materials.
