June 2, 2022

Dear SPC Families,

Tonight we celebrate the graduating Class of 2022! Please keep in your prayers the graduates as they prepare to leave St. Paul of the Cross and go to high school! Our 2022 St Paul of the Cross graduates have all been accepted at their first-choice high school and will go on to attend the following high schools: Loyola Academy, St Ignatius College Prep, St Viator High School, Notre Dame College Prep, Regina Dominican, Resurrection High School, St. Patrick High School, Fenwick, Maine South, Maine West, Northside College Prep and Taft. Many students have been placed into honors classes and awarded scholarships because of their strong academic success. Please pray for our graduates as they transition from SPC to high school.

At St Paul of the Cross, we have a tradition where the SPC class graduating high school returns to SPC for lunch and a photo in their college shirts on the church steps. On Tuesday, 5/31, we welcomed back the SPC class of 2018! We celebrated all their high school accomplishments and the strong foundation they received at SPC. There are so many outstanding scholarships and recognitions for these college-bound students, here are just a few; The SPC class of 2018 can boast two valedictorians; Adriana Zaiya from Willows Academy will be attending the Illinois Institute of Technology for Chemistry. She has received the Camras Scholarship, which covers the full cost of tuition. Thomas Scherer attended Northridge College Prep and will be attending Hillsdale College. Grayson Poindexter was awarded an Evans Scholarship and will attend The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Six members of the SPC Class of 2018 earned the Eagle Scout Rank! Congratulations to Letterio Montalbano, Anthony Purciarello, Bradley Orzada, Michael Lattanzio, PJ Spagnolo, and Stephen Kuhlman. Their service to their community and country is to be commended! The Class of 2018 will attend prestigious schools such as Notre Dame, University of Michigan, Boston College, Berkeley, Marquette, Loyola University, University of Wisconsin Madison, Purdue, and U of I, to name only a few! See below for more on the SPC Class of 2018.

Tomorrow we will be bringing back a favorite tradition, the SPC Olympics. Students in K - 7th grade will be placed into teams with children of all grade levels and assigned a teacher 'coach' for the day. The students they are paired with will become their team for future Olympic games moving forward.

Students will rotate between games on campus throughout the day while parent volunteers keep scores to determine the winners. Each of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams will receive medals, while the 1st place team will also receive t-shirts.

A few things to keep in mind for tomorrow:

  • Pick up and drop off will be at regularly scheduled times-see above for important drop-off procedures.
  • All children should come to school in SPC attire. SPC gym uniforms are encouraged with athletic shoes. No open toed shoes will be permitted. No crocs!
  • Applying sunscreen before the school day is also encouraged as half of the events will be outdoors.
  • Students should bring a labeled water bottle.
  • Hot lunch will be provided for those students who ordered it, but other students will need to bring their lunches as usual.
  • Home & School Association will serve popsicles before the winners are announced. Please let your teacher know if your child cannot have an allergy-friendly popsicle.
  • Only registered volunteers will be allowed to attend Olympic day. It will be closed to spectators and outside guests.
  • Early childhood (PS and PK) will be hosting their in-classroom Olympic games, sponsored by each classroom's room parents. They will also be receiving treats and prizes to make the day special.
