Dear SPC Families,

I want to congratulate our 7th and 8th Graders on their e-Cybermission STEM Competition!! A very big thank you to STEM teacher, Dr. Karl Ochsner.

The U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) announced the National Finalists, along with Regional Finalists and State Winners, in the 20th annual eCYBERMISSION competition. eCYBERMISSION is an online science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) competition for students in grades six through nine. 
 
Three 7th grade groups  won 1st, 2nd  and Honorable mention in the state of Illinois for their STEM projects, and one 8th grade group won 2nd in state. 
Students were challenged to work in teams of 2-4 to identify a problem in their community to explore using scientific practices or solve with engineering design.  eCYBERMISSION is a part of the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) competition and administered by the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA).

1st Place- Meme Team- Robotic Home Snow Remover: Jonathan S., Charlie Q., and Eamon C
2nd Place-Cornfield Crabs - Robotic Bathroom Vaping Detector: Max D. and Jake S.
Honorable Mention- Three Chickens- Robotic Pothole Fixer: Tyler M. John Z. Patrick R.
8th Grade Illinois State Winners
2nd Place Winners- Persevering in Pink.- Robotic Trash Collector and Biomass Converter: Lila M, Alison B and Katie S.

First Communion This Weekend
Let us all hold in our prayers the 2nd graders as they receive the Sacrament of First Communion on Saturday; these are special times for our students and families!

May Crowning May 18th
All students in grades 1-8 will attend May Crowning Mass at 1:30. Due to space considerations, only 2 guests of 2nd and 8th grade (2 only) are allowed to attend. 2nd and 8th Grade families, please look to the classroom newsletters for grade level specific directions.

NJHS & Uncle Pete's Sack Dinners - Feed the Hungry on Friday, May 20th
NJHS is working with Uncle Pete's to help feed the hungry. Brown paper bags will be passed out to your child on Tuesday, May 17th with instructions on what items to put in the dinner and return in the bag.
