Dear SPC Families,

Our 2023 Tiger Fun Run is TOMORROW, September 22nd. THANK YOU to all the families that have pledged so generously! It does appear that I should start practicing my “TikTok” dance, as we are very close to the $150,000 mark! Keep those pledges coming. We will be accepting online pledges through midnight of Fun Run Day at Family Login Page | Pledgestar

I want to extend a very special thank you to Mrs. Renee Taraseievich, our amazing Fun Run Chair, for the past three years! While this is her last year as chair, she has truly left her mark on this event and SPC. Her efforts have helped raise over $450,000 for the SPC Fun Run these past few years and made multiple school improvements possible. She is also the mastermind behind the fabulous Dr. M challenges–kissing the pig, the chicken costume, and now the TikTok video! If you see her tomorrow, please take a moment to thank her.

Some helpful reminders for the big day:

  • The big lot will be closed at 7:30 am. Please be patient and use caution as we utilize Washington Avenue for the UGC “kiss-and-go.”
  • Please do not park in the FM Global Lot at any time during the school day.
  • Please do not bring dogs to the Fun Run.
  • Be sure to send your student in his/her Fun Run t-shirt, comfortable bottoms, gym shoes, and a full water bottle!
  • Come cheer the students on! Make a sign, wear your grass skirt, or just come as you are and cheer on the students as they run laps (schedule below).

Jewelry in Gym Class

  • There should be no form of jewelry worn in gym class. Students are getting scratched, losing their earrings, losing their backs to earrings, breaking necklaces, and so on.
  • Students who have recent ear piercings may need to put small bandaids over the earrings if they can’t be removed. Teachers will not be removing earrings. We understand that new piercings cannot be removed.
  • This is a safety issue. Please do not wear jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc.) on PE days.
  • Children are not allowed to wear jewelry during interscholastic competitions for safety reasons.
  • If students come to class wearing jewelry, they will be told to remove it and put it in their backpacks. There can be no exceptions.
  • Thank you for understanding the safety factor in this.

Dear SPC Families,

I hope to see you all at our annual Parent Mixer tomorrow for a great evening of school spirit, beverages, and music! Thank you to Mrs Waldeck and the Welcome Committee for hosting the evening. We are excited to welcome back the Chancey Brothers for some live entertainment!

Congratulations to the Student Council on a successful Dilly Bar Sale! We have just sent an $800 donation to Catholic Charities Maui to help in the relief efforts!

Please Do Not Park in FM Global
This week, I received a visit from the manager of the FM Global building, who oversees the parking lot across the street on Washington. The safety of our students is a great concern. Since Illinois Bone and Joint has moved into the building, there has been considerably more traffic and parking. Our students have been seen, at pick-up, running between cars. Parking is not allowed in that lot. If you park there, you risk getting towed. Please follow the rules and be good neighbors.

Safe Zone After School
Please be mindful of the safety within the Safe Zone after school. I know the weather is beautiful, but we need to ensure everyone is safe; please ensure your child is supervised if they are playing after school. Large games of football and soccer should not be played.

Dear SPC Families,

We are having a wonderful first week of school! Thankfully, the weather will change tonight, so we will be back to outside recess tomorrow! Thank you to Home and School for helping to plan our Ice Cream Social after Mass on Sunday.

I look forward to seeing you all next Thursday for Back to School Night; please see below for the complete schedule.

Morning Drop-off Procedures – PLEASE TAKE NOTE

I know it takes some time to get back into the swing of morning routines, but we need to make sure that we are following the drop-off procedures:

Drop-off Locations
– Please use the Kiss-and-Go Line that makes the most sense for your family. Adults using any of the four Kiss-and-Go Lines MUST remain in their cars.

PLEASE DO NOT PARK AND LEAVE YOUR CAR IN ANY KISS-AND-GO LINE. Parents are parking on Summit and walking their children to the EGC, causing problems on the Summitt drop-off.

KISS AND GO LINES

  • Ridge Terrace –  Drop off for UGC and older EGC siblings
  • Tiger Parking Lot – There, you will drop off near the alley doors of the UGC
  • Main Parking Lot –  Primary drop off for UGC students
  • Summit – You may use Summit to drop off. DO NOT MAKE A U-TURN on SUMMIT.DO NOT DROP YOUR CHILD OFF ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE STREET AND ASK THEM TO CROSS OVER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Parking Options –  If you are walking your preschool or Kindergarten student to the door, you may park in the Tiger Lot or the Main Parking Lot. All other grades are STRONGLY encouraged to use the three kiss-and-go options. Please do not park at the Ryan Parke Funeral Home at any time, and please do not park along the west side of Ridge Terrace.

iPad Agreements

All students in Grades K-8 must complete this agreement in order to receive their iPads. Please click here to read and sign the agreement.

From the SPC Home & School Association

On behalf of the Home and School Association, we are excited to begin another year with the SPC Community. You will find all of our meeting dates on the school calendar, and we have included them here for your reference. We have added evening dates to accommodate working parents and scheduling issues. Similar to last year, each meeting will have a virtual option where we will share the link the day prior.

2023:

Tuesday--September 19 --8PM --Duffin Hall

Thursday,--November 9-- 8 AM - Duffin Hall

2024

Tuesday, January 23--8PM--Duffin Hall

Friday--March 15--8 AM -- Duffin Hall

Tuesday, April 23--8PM--Duffin Hall

At the first meeting on September 19th, we will review all Home and School Association committees. We are searching for several new chair positions, committee members, and, most importantly- new board members to lead the organization in the future. If you want to learn more before the meeting on the 19th, please email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We would LOVE for as many families to be involved with the association in leadership roles as possible this school year!

This week, we emailed a FACTS form for you to select your child’s shirt size for some of our upcoming events (like the SPC Olympics!), purchase out-of-uniform passes, and contribute to faculty monthly lunches in one form. Whether participating in the lunches or out-of-uniform passes, you must fill out one form for each child. Our first out-of-uniform day is 9/15, so purchase your passes soon! All future out-of-uniform dates are on the school calendar.

As noted in the email, we will not be collecting cash or PayPal / Zelle payments for teacher luncheons this year. The luncheons are hosted monthly as a special treat for the faculty members from places like Nono Pinno’s, Holts, and several other local vendors. The average amount donated per child to these lunches is $20.

Room parent announcements will be coming out shortly. We’ve had a record number of sign-ups this year, so if you are not chosen- do not fear- we have many opportunities to volunteer inside the classrooms, on field trips, and in many more activities. We also still have open slots for several teachers for lunch coverage. If you are interested in volunteering, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. We will share updates each month in the Thursday Mailing. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at any time at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
