Orvis Hydros Euro Fly Reel — The Hydros, Rebuilt as a Euro Nymphing Machine

The wildly popular Orvis Hydros reel makes its debut here as a purpose-built European nymphing reel. Euro nymphing leans heavily on impossibly thin running line and monofilament, and that thin line is exactly what can slip between spool and frame on a standard reel. Orvis solved that by rebuilding the Hydros II into a fully caged Euro version with tightened tolerances, completely eliminating the gap where line escapes.

It is also slightly heavier than the standard Hydros, and that is deliberate. The added weight balances the long 10' and 11' rods that Euro anglers fish, so the whole outfit sits right in the hand through a long day of high-stick drifts.

Everything that makes the Hydros series work is still here. At the core is the bombproof, fully sealed Hydros drag system, built with stacked carbon and stainless steel disc washers and zero startup inertia, one of the strongest drags in the category. The reel also carries an ergonomically accessible drag knob, a refined seal that protects the clutch bearing in the drag mechanism, and a radiused reel foot for kink-free leader protection. It comes in matte olive with silver accents.

Great Story about Native Americans before Europeans
Format: Paperback
I read this book with my kids (11,8) as part of our unit on Native Americans before colonization. They both really enjoyed it. It helped to humanize history for them and show them that although the cultural practices were different, the characters experienced some of the same feelings, relationship challenges, and personal struggles and triumphs that we experience today.

Wonderful book about pre-European North America
Format: Paperback
This is a great book. There's a massive shortage of children's books written by Natives, especially ones that give a picture of pre-European America, and if you've noticed that, THIS IS THE BOOK YOU'RE LOOKING FOR to fill that hole in your home school curriculum/child's library. It's a "boy book," but my seven year old girl got through it without any complaints except that she wanted me to read ahead so I could tell her if anything scary happened. I would say that the plot is a little slow, the main story pauses a lot for background information or traditional stories. But that's not really a complaint, I don't think it's even worth taking off one star. Almost anything by Joseph Bruchac is worth your money, and this one is no exception.

Great book!
Format: Hardcover
My kids love this book. It's not a super long book but long enough to give a fun storyline. Puts a fun spin on cupid.
