March 10, 2022

Dear SPC Families,

My goodness, what a week celebrating community and Roundball! It has been such a joy seeing the gym packed each night. I hope everyone can stop by the gym and catch some of the fun before the Roundball Tournament ends on Saturday. I want to thank Mr. Joe Haugh and Mr. Ryan Fletcher, and the Men's club for everything they have done to ensure the week's success. Another shout-out goes to Mrs. Mary Connolly, who has been in charge of the concessions. Please don't blame her for the week-long sugar high of many of our students! Thank you also to Mrs. Meredith Santucci for taking amazing photos that truly have captured the joy of the week!

Thank you again for the incredible generosity that enabled us to raise over 136,000 for the CTS Parent Appeal! Please click here for the CTS 2022 Parent Appeal Report.

PARENT FEEDBACK NEEDED:
Each year we administer the 5Essentials Survey to better inform school goals. Please take some time to complete the survey below. At the moment, we only have a 16% response rate, which does not produce a valid survey result. Please take some time to complete the survey. I am hoping for a response rate over 80%.

Parent Feedback Needed: 5Essentials Survey
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction

Prior research has shown that schools that were strong on at least three of these "5Essential" indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.

All teachers and 4th through 12th-grade students will be responding to this survey. 5Essentials Reports will be generated for schools if their teachers and/or students meet the response rate threshold of 50 percent. These reports will be sent to schools and districts in May 2022.

Additionally, the Archdiocese has chosen to provide the 5essentials parent survey. A parent supplement report will also be generated if at least 20 percent of St Paul of the Cross parents complete this survey.

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child's school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept entirely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

The 5Essentials Survey will be conducted from February 15 through March 18, 2022. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/archchicago/survey/parent/.

Out of Uniform Day Fundraiser for the Ukraine Solidarity Fund
The SPC Life Team is sponsoring an out-of-uniform day on Tuesday, March 15th, with all donations going to the Knights of Columbus Ukraine Solidarity Fund. This fund is being used to provide shelter, food, medical supplies, clothing, religious goods, and other humanitarian needs as identified, both directly in Ukraine and through refugee sites in Poland, thanks to local Knights based in Ukraine and Poland. They are the "Boots on the ground" in the relief operation. (www.kofc.org)

Please wear blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine, and bring your dollar(s) in on Tuesday, March 15th, as the school joins together for a Prayer for Peace.
