AND JUST LIKE THAT, THE COVID GUIDELINES CHANGE AGAIN….
FROM THE OFFICE OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS ON 1/12:
Last night, the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education released updated guidance for schools, addressing many issues related to the CDC’s Dec. 27 guidance on 5-day quarantine and isolation. This new guidance also addresses some issues that had not been clearly addressed by state officials, including the use of masks outdoors. Therefore, we are updating our guidance to reflect those clarifications:

  • Masks can be removed outdoors, including during outdoor athletics and recess (as long as individuals are not in crowded spaces).
  • Anyone returning from a 5-day isolation or quarantine must still wear a mask at all times (indoors and outdoors) on days 6 - 10, during outdoor athletics and recess.
  • Following any required 5-day isolation/quarantine, families have the option to either:
    1. send a student back to school on day 6 with the understanding that the student will need to distance 6 feet at lunch and remain masked at all times, indoors and outdoors through day 10, or
    2. keep a student home for the full 10 days and send the student back to school on day 11

As we have done from the start, we will conform our guidelines to those of our local public health departments and will make adjustments as necessary. It is challenging but important for all of us to keep up with changing conditions and guidance. Our priority remains the health of the whole student and providing exceptional, uninterrupted, in-person instruction and extracurricular activities.

NO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK OPEN HOUSE:
Given the current Covid surge, we are not hosting a Catholic Schools Week Open House on Sunday, Jan. 30. We will continue to have fun activities to celebrate Catholic Schools during the week.

CHANGE IN CALENDAR-NO SCHOOL ON HOLY THURSDAY
The Office of Catholic Schools has allowed schools to take up to 4 “mental health” days for teachers. Holy Thursday was originally a ½ day of school. It will now be a full day off as part of the mental health days. To alleviate the stress of having another day off for our families, the original Professional development day on Mar. 4 is now a day off for the teachers. The other days will be taken at the end of the school year after the last day of school during the teacher PD week. Please make a note of Holy Thursday in your calendar.

SECURITY PROGRAM: VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
As you are probably aware, St. Paul of the Cross has a volunteer security program staffed by active and retired police officers. The program is always looking for more volunteers. If you are an active or retired police officer and you are interested in volunteering (even once a month for a few hours), please contact Tim Hawkins at 773-301-1789 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Update from Home & School Association

TRIP (our gift card tuition reimbursement program) rebates were processed earlier this week. Some families earned over $500 in rebates to their FACTS account by purchasing gift cards they use on a daily basis. For example, Lands End provides a 15% rebate back to families by purchasing e-gift cards from the site before they process their order.

Moving forward, "TRIP" will be transitioning to the RAISE RIGHT app where you can order physical gift cards shipped directly to your home.  More information about the app can be found here E-cards and additional gift cards can still be found on the website, but SPC will no longer have physical gift cards in stock for purchase. SPC's access code for the app is C21ELFAD426. This will link directly to your family's account.

We are also looking for 2 parent volunteers to help to manage the RAISE RIGHT program moving forward. If you are interested in becoming more involved in this program, please email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
