May 13, 2020

Dear SPC Families,

I pray you are well and have been able to get outside today and enjoy the gorgeous weather. Here are a few updates regarding the end of the year:

MAY 26th at 5:30: PLEASE JOIN US IN A VERY SPECIAL PARADE TO CELEBRATE OUR GRADUATES!
We need your help in showing our SPC love to the Class of 2020. We all know the end of their 8th-grade year was not what we envisioned for them, but we still want to send them off with a celebration. One of the things we have planned is an SPC Parade. Please join us on May 26th from 5:30-6:00. Our graduates will be lined up (social distancing) in their caps and gowns along Ridge Terrace and Summit. I know it would mean a lot to see so many of their SPC family wish them well!

END OF YEAR COLLECTION OF PERSONAL BELONGINGS & RETURN OF BOOKS
You will receive grade-level specific information regarding this process. We are still working out logistics. This will be communicated to families the week of May 25th. Collection for grades Preschool-7 will take place the week of June 1st. Given the large number of students and the need to social distance, the collection may extend into June 8-9th. Your student will be given a specific time and specific location to come to campus to drop off materials.

FALL 2020:
I know this is at the forefront of many of our minds. However, at this time, I do not have any information regarding what the beginning of school may look like. While SPC will have approximately 620 students, please keep in mind that we have the luxury of having two buildings to sort through logistics. According to Governor Pritzker, schools opening are Phase 4. Here are a few things I anticipate based on the phased approach of the opening of Illinois and have been mentioned in various conversations.

  1. There will be no large gatherings. For example, we will probably not have a large Back to School Parent Night. All-School Masses will not happen until it is safe to do so.
  2. Possible temperature checks as students enter the building.
  3. Only employees allowed in the building.
  4. Scattered times for arrival and dismissal.
  5. Changes to passing periods for the UGC.

I want to say that this is all speculation. As soon as we receive guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Department of Public Health, and the Archdiocese of Chicago, I will communicate the plan. However, we are currently focussing our energy on the details required to end the school year.

I look forward to seeing you all at the parade tomorrow!

Peace,

Dr. Erika Mickelburgh
Principal
