September 15, 2022

Dear SPC Families,

Thank you for a beautiful evening last Friday for the 2nd Annual Parent Mixer; seeing everyone enjoying the evening was super fun. Thank you to Mrs. Waldeck for coordinating the party and Mr. Bob McNamara and the Chancey Brothers for the music!

Today we had our first fire drill, and I am happy to report that all the students exited the building quickly and quietly! It was very impressive that both buildings evacuated in 2 minutes!

Fun Run
We are in full swing of Fun Run excitement! Thank you to everyone who is collecting pledges and supporting SPC. Next Friday looks like perfect weather for the event, and I hope you can join us to cheer on our runners. I will be announcing Dr. M's annual Fun Run challenge next week–I first have to look over my life insurance documents. :)

Please read below for all the Fun Run details, directions for morning drop-off, and notes on what each student will need that day.

High School Fair, Inviting All 7th and 8th Grade Students
We will host a high school fair on September 21st from 6:30-8:00 pm in the gym. Any student who attends the fair will receive an out-of-uniform pass for September 28th!

Parking in the Condo Alley off of Ridge Terrace
Please do not park in that alley; it is private property. It is also dangerous as kids are running around and people are exiting the garage. Thank you.

From building and art, imaginative and social play, and even learning new games together, each week will be a surprise for your child. (Gently) guided by adults, this hour after school gives your child the space, time, and companionship to do things like unwind in a play kitchen, build a castle with blocks, or even enjoy a picnic with a stuffed friend. There will be playdoh. There will be glitter. There will be giggles. There will be fun!

Extra time spent reading in the school library sure is special!

Clay clubbers will create 2-3 glazed ceramic pieces as well as learn the colorful art of sculpting polymer clay! This one-day class is all about magic and a little bit of silliness. After reading this much-loved classic, we'll make our own wands and try a little magic of our own.

Book Play Pop in: I'll Wait Mr. Panda
Mr. Panda is working hard but will his friends wait to see what his efforts create? In this one-day class, we'll explore this simple but fun read as we enjoy a treat ourselves and make a craft connected to this book. PLEASE NOTE: If your child has food allergies, please notify the teacher.

Peace,
Dr. Erika Mickelburgh

Building Resilience: Help Your Child Adapt and Thrive
Resilience Webinar September 21st from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
As the new school year begins in earnest, it can feel overwhelming for children (and you!) to adjust to the new rhythm. Transitions can be difficult in the best of times, and the added uncertainty of uncontrollable events–like pandemic disruptions–can increase anxiety. Building resilience can help! Resilience is the ability to adapt to and bounce back from challenges, moving forward with optimism. Everyone is resilient to some degree, but it’s possible to strengthen your children’s resilience “muscles” (and your own) by exercising them. This webinar shows how building resilience can ease the transition back to school and help your children thrive despite the uncertainties and changes they will face at school and at home. You will learn practical and evidence-based skills to encourage in your children as they move forward this year.
