Surtees, was an English editor, novelist, and sporting writer famous for creating the enduring character Mr. Jorrocks, a boisterous cockney grocer obsessed with fox hunting. His major works include Jorrocks's Jaunts and Jollities (1838), Handley Cross (1843), and Mr. Sponge's Sporting Tour (1853), which captured the spirit of the hunt with humor and vivid detail.
