Welcome to Mrs. Rinaldi's Kindergarten Class - Room 121

Play, Learn and Grow Together! That is what kindergarten is all about. My name is Mary Ruth Rinaldi and I am a kindergarten teacher here at St. Paul of the Cross. I grew up in Park Ridge. I graduated from Mary Seat of Wisdom where my third grade teacher, Sr. Margaret, inspired me to become a teacher. I then attended Maine South High School. I went on to graduate from National College of Education, now National Louis University. Lastly, I attended Northeastern Illinois a received a Masters in Education.

I am on my 24th year at St. Paul of the Cross. I taught 3rd grade for 20 years and switched to kindergarten four years ago. I also am the director of the Extended Day Program. The EDP program strives to give the students who need to stay longer than the school day time to do homework and play in our gym.

St. Paul of the Cross is not only a wonderful place to work, but also great place to send your children. I have two children who attended St. Paul of the Cross and they will always have a special bond with the teachers and families.

Welcome To Kindergarten

 Welcome to Mrs. Rinaldi's Classroom

Welcome back to school! We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Religion-We work on learning the Hail Mary and Our Father throughout the year. We will be going to 8:30 Mass every Thursday except if we have an all school mass. We read Bible stories and incorporate these into our day.

Language Arts-We will be working on learning the 150 sight words. We also use the Fundations Phonics program. As the year goes on, we will bring in guided reading books at school and leveled readers to be done at home. We will also start the basics of writing through journaling. These journals will be kept at school and sent home at the end of the year. We will focus on writing sentences with punctuation as well as capital letters, spacing and drawing pictures.

Math- We use the Math in Focus program. This program is designed to give a strong foundation in number sense. We will incorporate many of these concepts into our centers throughout the week.

Themes-Each week we have a different theme that we will incorporate into our day. We will be doing many projects that go along with our themes as well as bringing science concepts that coordinate with our themes.  We also have a food curriculum that we coordinate with the themes.

Centers-We do centers 2-3 times a week in the afternoons in addition to guided reading centers in the morning. Our centers focus on reviewing concepts from the week, science, technology, writing and other activities.
