Welcome to Mrs. Hoversen's Eighth Grade Class - Room 223

Background and Education:
Mrs. Hoversen has been a teacher at St. Paul of the Cross School for 19 years and has been in the field of education for 42 years. She is holds a BS from Loyola University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Holocaust Education. Mrs. Hoversen is a Sendler Fellow through the Illinois Holocaust Museum and a Lerner Fellow through the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous and Columbia University in New York.

Additional Responsibilities at SPC:
-Social Studies Department Chair
-Founder and coordinator of Building Bridges Across Communities, a partnership program with The Field Museum, St. Paul of the  Cross School, and Epiphany School
-A Founder and Director of Take the Lead Kids, a program created with fellow teachers and students who attended Junior High Student Leadership Days at the Illinois Holocaust Museum. This program is intended to encourage youth to make a difference and "Take the Lead".

Wednesday 10-25-2017 - Chapter 2 Take Home test - Due Thursday 10-26-2017 - All students must adhere to the following rules for a Take Home test:

1) Students may use any resource that we have used in school to do the test. Textbook, notes, Chapter 2 packet, key terms and bold words in notebook

2) No student is to start the test at school

3) No student is to use another student or person as a resource. Students are not to help each other or to do the test together.

4) When the test is completed and the student feels that all answers are their final answer, the students are to highlight each answer. In some cases, both the letter answer and the choice are to be highlighted.

5) The student is to bring the test to school on Thursday morning and the homeroom teacher will collect the tests for Mrs. Hoversen. 

6) Any late tests will automatically be assigned a 10% reduction to the grade.

Write a personal reflection about what you learned visiting this museum.

This is to be no less than two paragraphs.

Due to conflicts with the available days at the Holocaust Museum and our schedule, the trip to the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie will be only for those who are remaining in Chicago during the 8th Grade trip to DC. Arrangements are being made for those students.  Those going to DC will be attending a tour at USHMM and will be responsible for the same Reflection Paper as the students attending IHMEC.

3 issues on page 17 go to ProCon.org then type in the search bar Compare 2016 Presidential Candidate Positions (update 9/28/16)  Use this website to fill in page 19. Divide p. 19 in half lenghthwise with one side Clinton and one side Trump and write down how they stand on your 3 issues by using the website.

This work is preparation for the last Debate on Wednesday night at 8:00. This debate is an assignment.

Have your packet with you and comment in it if the candidates address your issues.
